Pride Month at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest
June is steeped with history for the LGBTQ community. Originally chosen to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969, Pride Month has become a time to reflect and recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history — locally, nationally, and internationally.
At PPPSW, we are full of pride, and will be celebrating all month long — by participating in festivities, focusing on issues that unduely affect the LGBTQ community, and reaffirming our commitment to equal rights, care, and respect for all.
Testing. Treatment. Prevention. Care.
June 27 is National HIV Testing Day, and here at PPPSW, we work every day to remove the stigma around being tested. Everyone who is sexually active should be regularly tested for STIs, including HIV. However, the LGBTQ community is disproportionately affected by the virus.
Last year, Planned Parenthood branches across the country performed more than 750,000 HIV tests. But that’s not all we do — we help our patients find treatment and prevention solutions that work within their lives, provide resources to empower them to make the best decisions for themselves, and welcome them with open arms, no matter what.
Community Support
We work hard and we play hard. All month long, and even in to July, members of our team will be participating in parades, community outreach and education programs — showing our true colors as advocates, allies and members of the LGBTQ community.
As Cecile Richards, the former president of Planned Parenthood said,
“This June, and every day of the year, Planned Parenthood stands with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. We see you. We care about you. We stand with you — no matter where you live, no matter what”
We’re excited for all of the events coming up — if you’d like to join us, make sure to follow our careers page on Twitter at @PPPSWCareers.
Celebrating Diversity
We’re proud of our team — and everything about them. We’re proud that we have many members of the LGBT community on our team. And we’re proud that we work in an environment that supports us being who we are, and encourages us to bring our authentic selves to work.
