National Health Center Week: Powering Communities Through Care
Expanding on the Power of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPSW)
Every August, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) sponsors National Health Center Week (NHCW) to celebrate and increase awareness of America’s 1,400 Community Health Centers (CHCs). It is a time to recognize the vital role that community health centers play in providing affordable, accessible health care to millions of people across the country.
As a cornerstone of health care accessibility, PPPSW’s commitment to comprehensive care extends far beyond our clinic walls. Throughout our more than 60-year history, we have been steadfast champions for the communities we serve, ensuring that every aspect of sexual and reproductive health is well-cared for. With more than 20 health centers in San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties serving more than 130,000 patients, PPPSW is part of an essential network of care.
Beyond providing essential reproductive health care services, our robust, comprehensive sex education programs are designed to be inclusive and provide the information needed to understand all aspects of sexual and reproductive health. While we offer in-person education, we also offer virtual and on-site presentations and workshops to meet people (students, professionals, and parents/caregivers) where they are, ensuring that everyone feels welcomed and understood.
Similarly, our Promotorx program seeks to engage local community members and increase awareness of reproductive health care and sex education rights by providing education, outreach, and access to health care services. We are so proud that our Promotorx program cultivates a new generation of community leaders by educating community members about public policy and legislation that impacts reproductive and sexual health rights.
