Celebrating Disability Pride Month: Advancing Inclusive Reproductive Health Care

July 25, 2024

As we commemorate Disability Pride Month this July, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPSW) reaffirms its commitment to providing inclusive, accessible reproductive health care for all individuals. Disability Pride Month is an annual observance that began in 1990 and serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of disability rights and the ongoing struggle for full equity and inclusion.

At PPPSW, we believe that true reproductive freedom can only be achieved when all individuals, including those with disabilities, have full and equitable access to comprehensive health care services. People with disabilities continue to face unique challenges in accessing health care, including physical barriers, communication obstacles, and societal stigma.

On this Disability Pride Month, and every month, we invite passionate clinicians to join our team and help us create a more inclusive health care environment. As a clinician at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, you’ll have the opportunity to help people access the comprehensive and inclusive health care they need and deserve, and make a real difference in the lives of our patients.

Be part of our inclusive culture, where we strive to create an environment where all patients feel welcome and respected to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. This commitment extends to our hiring practices, as we actively seek to diversify our workforce and include clinicians with disabilities who can bring valuable perspectives to our team.

We also provide comprehensive training to ensure our clinicians are equipped to offer culturally competent care to patients with disabilities. This includes education on disability etiquette, accessible communication techniques, and the specific reproductive health needs of individuals with various disabilities. By joining our team, you’ll have access to ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance your ability to serve our diverse communities and patient population.

We are constantly exploring innovative ways to improve accessibility and quality of care for every single one of our patients – no matter what. This includes implementing adaptive medical equipment, developing accessible health education materials, and utilizing telemedicine to reach patients who may have difficulty accessing in-person services.

Our commitment to Disability Pride extends beyond patient care, and into our workplace culture. We strive to create an inclusive environment where each of our employees is valued, supported, and given equal opportunities for career advancement. By fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce, we can better serve our diverse patient population and create a more equitable health care system.

If you’re a clinician passionate about reproductive health and disability rights, we invite you to consider a career with Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. By joining our team, you’ll have the opportunity to:
