Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest Recruiter Spotlight: Meet Katrina!
Katrina is the Senior Talent Acquisition & Project Specialist at PPPSW and has been a member of the Planned Parenthood family since August of 2013.
Could you describe what you do at PPPSW?
There are two parts to my job. First and foremost, I am a recruiter and so I partner with our regional hiring managers to hire passionate talent for their teams. I do this work for both our affiliate and another regional affiliate of Planned Parenthood in the Southern California region. I also work with our Talent Acquisition team to manage projects that we are working on that push forward progressive recruitment strategies for the organization.
What advice would you give a new employee for being successful at PPPSW?
Take advantage of all the opportunities offered here! There are so many training and connecting opportunities within the org — even advocacy opportunities with our sister organization! Dive in and enjoy everything our sprawling organization can offer you
What advice would you give job seekers looking to start a career with PPPSW?
The mission is the reason I came to work here. If you are interested in a job here, get familiar with the mission and make sure it aligns with your values. If it does, it will be a constant source of inspiration and motivation for you in your work here, for many years to come.
What’s the one word you would choose to describe PPPSW, and why?
Inspiring!
I’ve never worked for an organization for this long, and I certainly never expected to feel so inspired by the mission and my colleagues every single day, for almost eight years now!
What is your greatest accomplishment at PPPSW?
I get people jobs. And sometimes those jobs change the trajectory of their lives. That is something I am very proud of.
What makes you proud to work at PPPSW?
Every single week, month, year that I’ve worked for this organization, I feel pride in something we are doing. Right now, the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion brings me an immense amount of pride.
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of work?
I like traveling and tennis and yoga — but to be totally honest I haven’t done any of those things in over a year now! This time in my life has been dominated by an amazing little human that I brought into the world in 2020 — and that little human occupies any and all time I would have had for hobbies anyway!
