Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest Recruiter Spotlight: Meet Sara!
Sara is a Talent Strategy Administrative Assistant at PPPSW and has been a member of the Planned Parenthood family since November 2018.
Could you describe what you do at PPPSW?
As an administrative assistant, I help facilitate the recruitment process by scheduling interviews, initiating references and background checks, sending out offers and gathering documents, and serving as a point of contact for candidates throughout their onboarding.
What advice would you give a new employee for being successful at PPPSW?
One of our values is “we try and we learn,” so I think being open to learning and willing to make mistakes is important in succeeding at PPPSW. I’ve experienced firsthand how supportive and encouraging PPPSW employees are, so it has really been up to me to get outside of my comfort zone and embrace a culture of continuous learning.
What advice would you give job seekers looking to start a career with PPPSW?
Research the organization and find out if it is something you are truly passionate about. We love the impact that we are making and look for those who feel the same about our mission!
What’s the one word you would choose to describe PPPSW, and why?
Employee-centric. PPPSW genuinely cares about its employees and their well-being. Employee feedback is sought out and encouraged and this feedback is used to update policies and procedures to promote employee satisfaction and provide rewards that are personally motivating to employees.
What is your greatest accomplishment at PPPSW?
I was fortunate to work directly with our patients for two years which will continue to inform the work that I do every day! Providing excellent care and service to everyone no matter their background and circumstances is integral to what we do, and hearing feedback from patients that I positively influenced their experiences was very rewarding.
What makes you proud to work at PPPSW?
I am proud to work for an organization that welcomes and celebrates people of all backgrounds and constantly strives to improve. I love coming to work knowing I am making a positive impact in the world. I am happy to know that my organization cares both about the community it serves AND its employees. I feel safe in an organization that works for its employees as much as its employees work for it.
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of work?
I love spending time with my 5-year-old black lab and my 3-year-old tortoiseshell cat. I also travel whenever I can. I love going to tropical places like Hawaii, Mexico, and Belize. Next stop: the Dominican Republic!
